Finding ways to build personal self-esteem is the key to motivating people. Once employees feel valued, they will feel more confident and, in turn, will be successful innovators. Most companies will buy into all aspects of formalizing new product development except for the one major and common missing link – motivation and rewards. This is a mistake. Compensation and financial incentives are integral ingredients of the motivation and reward game plane. Although dollars and cents are not the only means of motivating a team of new product developers, money does talk, and companies that want an entrepreneurial environment need to have compensation programs that simulate those of a start-up business.
